Fasting is essentially self-restraint. Fasting worship provides valuable learning for someone from faith, society, community, and others. This study uses a qualitative methodology by using the quranic verses and prophetic tradition, various books and research results on fasting in various socio-religious or cultural traditions as the primary source. The purpose of the Islamic obligation of fasting includes aspects of worship, spirituality, self-control, social empowerment, and consciousness-raising.
