STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN ACHIEVING ENGLISH LEARNING SKILLS EFFECTIVELY

Abstract

In Indonesia, English is one of the subjects that must be studied by the students. Students have taken English as one of the compulsory course for a minimum of 6 years at the junior and senior high school level, and nowadays they can learn English in elementary schools as well. Even some excellent kindergartens have also begun to introduce English. At the tertiary level, English language learning is given with the aim of facing global competition. Many different responses are found in the classroom to these problems, especially related to student attitudes in the learning process, student learning outcomes and participation in conducting group movement activities. This study aims to explain the difficulties faced by students when learning English and the causes of these difficulties. This research uses qualitative methods with the tools of questionnaire, observation, and video recording. The research data were analyzed in three ways, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results showed that the research subjects faced many different difficulties in learning English. This is due to different levels of English.
